Carol Price-Torok, UTSA's Head Volleyball Coach, hosted Shavano Park Women and their spouses in a behind the scenes tour of UTSA's campus, Convocation Center and new Roadrunner Athletics Center of Excellence (RACE).
Tour guides included:
Carol Price-Torok
Ryan Vorder - Assistant Volleyball Coach
Courtney Walter - senior on the volleyball team
Brad Parrot - Senior Associate Athletic Director Community and Government Relations
The tour was followed by a presentation by Dr. Lisa Campos, Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics & Athletics Director, in which she outlined her vision for growing UTSA's athletics programs.
Under Ms. Campos' leadership, UTSA’s sport programs have produced 7 All-Americans, earned more than 130 all-conference honors and captured 17 individual conference titles and 3 team conference crowns in the last 3 years including the 2021 C-USA Football Championship.
Despite COVID challenges, the RACE center opened in August of 2021. The 94,700 square-foot center is a state-of-the-art training facility that includes a sports medicine center, strength/conditioning facilities, locker rooms, meeting rooms, staff and coaches offices, private academic rooms and practice fields. The center was built at a cost of $40.8 million. It serves as the central hub for UTSA Athletics and promotes the academic success, health, wellness and performance of student-athletes.
Lunch was at Chicken N Pickle where SPW members chipped in $200 as a donation for UTSA Athletics' newly created Women's Discretionary Fund.
