Shavano Park marked our nation's independence with a delightful Picnic In The Park-themed celebration held on the grounds of city hall. This annual event, which draws residents and visitors alike, serves as a cherished tradition that fosters community spirit and pride. Guests enjoyed a variety of activities and offerings including:

  • Patriotic parade around the traffic circle

  • Patriotic baking contest

  • A flag retirement ceremony

  • Face painting and caricatures

  • A water park with slides and water balloons

  • The Doug Winn Band providing live music for the festivities

Attendees were treated to hamburgers and hot dogs grilled to perfection. For those with a sweet tooth, homemade desserts from the patriotic baking contest were available for everyone to enjoy.

The SPW booth featured activities for everyone to participate in, including Give us your John Hancock and Fun Facts of the Founding Fathers. Additionally, the SPW booth handed out poppers, which were a hit with both children and adults.

Additionally, the Picnic In The Park celebration served as an opportunity for community engagement. Local groups like the Daughters of the American Revolution, along with local businesses, had booths where they shared details about their services and projects, helping to build connections among our residents. Attendees could learn about local resources, reinforcing the sense of belonging that Shavano Park is known for.

The Picnic In The Park-themed celebration at Shavano Park was a heartfelt reminder of the values that bind us as a nation. It was a day filled with laughter, connection, and gratitude, making it a memorable occasion for all who attended.

We extend our gratitude to the SPW volunteers for braving the heat to ensure the success of this event for our city. Everyone enjoyed themselves. It was a fantastic way to celebrate our nation's independence!
