SPW and their guests enjoyed an engaging interactive presentation on cybersecurity threats that are increasingly relevant in our homes, government, and industry. This insightful session featured live demonstrations conducted by Thomas Ervin, a Professor of Practice in Information Systems and Cyber Security at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). Throughout the presentation, Professor Ervin expertly outlined the various types of cybersecurity threats that individuals and organizations face today, including malware, phishing attacks, and ransomware. He provided real-world examples that illustrated how these threats manifest and the potential consequences they can have on personal data and corporate integrity.
In addition to discussing the theoretical aspects of cybersecurity, Professor Ervin showcased practical demonstrations that highlighted the methods used by cybercriminals to exploit vulnerabilities in systems. These demonstrations were not only eye-opening but also served to emphasize the importance of being vigilant and proactive in safeguarding our digital environments.
Professor Ervin's expertise and engaging teaching style made the complex subject matter accessible and relevant, ensuring that all participants left with a deeper understanding of how to protect themselves and their organizations from emerging cyber threats.
A big thank you to Mary Young for arranging this enlightening presentation. The presentation not only illuminated key issues but also sparked meaningful discussions among attendees.
