We celebrated Cinco de Mayo at the beautiful home of Tracee Matheson. We were greeted with refreshing margaritas and fruity sangria. The culinary offerings included two types of chili, 11 cheese mac and cheese, crisp salad, and dessert.

Diana Anderson joined us to share her extensive knowledge of the history of the San Antonio Chili Queens. She told us about the remarkable women who played a pivotal role in shaping the city’s culinary landscape from the late 1800's to early 1900's. We learned that the Chili Queens were not just vendors; they were trailblazers who operated open-air food stalls in downtown plazas, creating a lively atmosphere that attracted locals and visitors alike. They served a variety of delicious Mexican dishes, including not only chili but also enchiladas, tamales, and menudo. The Chili Queens originated the concept of chili right here in San Antonio. They were instrumental in pioneering Tex-Mex cuisine.

In addition to our Cinco de Mayo celebration, we also conducted our 2nd Quarter Business Meeting.

We extend our gratitude to our Vice President, Mary Young, and her committee for generously volunteering their time to plan this event. Thank you for all your hard work.
