A party celebrating 70 years of Shavano Park Women and the Shavano Park Garden Club! Current and past members enjoyed reconnecting over mimosas and delicious finger foods.
We began the festivities with a visit from our mayor, the Honorable Bob Werner, congratulating us on our 70 years as an organization. SPW President, Lori Fanning, presented the mayor with a certificate of appreciation for his unrelenting support of our organization.
Lori Fanning welcomed the group and introduced our special guests, former presidents of the organizations. We then conducted a short Business Meeting and kicked off our 2023 membership drive.
As a part of our Business Meeting Marti Buchholtz reminded the group, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. She also stressed the importance of getting an annual mammogram. The group took up contributions to support breast cancer efforts in the community. A total of $455 was collected for a local nonprofit the Alamo Breast Cancer Foundation. Visit their website to see the good they are doing in our community https://www.alamobreastcancer.org/.
With business concluded, we moved on to lunch and games with prizes to celebrate our 70th anniversary.
Pulling this fabulous event together was huge team effort. A special thanks to Sandy Cooley for hosting us. As a token of thanks, we presented her with a beautiful fresh flower centerpiece. We are grateful to our event committee members: Diane Struve, Glenda Bibb, Kit Fuller and Marti Buchholtz. You ladies really outdid yourselves! Glenda showcased her culinary skills in coordinating and preparing a variety of finger-food and cakes which were artistically displayed. Many thanks to all who donated their time and energy assisting Glenda. We know a lot of work went into preparing for this celebration and we truly appreciate everyone's contribution.
Marti delivered all leftover food to the Shavano Park Fire Department. Chief Dover and his crew sent their appreciation to SPW for thinking of them.
