Shavano Park's 2026 Independence Day Celebration

Shavano Park marked the 250th anniversary of our nation's independence and its own 70th birthday with a celebration on the grounds of city hall. This yearly event, attracting both residents and visitors, is a beloved tradition that fosters community spirit and pride. Attendees enjoyed a range of activities and offerings, including:

• Patriotic parade around the traffic circle

• Patriotic baking contest

• A flag retirement ceremony

• Face painting and caricatures

• A water park with slides, foam pit, and water balloons

• A talent show - a new addition to the activities

At lunchtime, we enjoyed perfectly grilled fajitas prepared by representatives of Republic Services. For those with a sweet tooth, homemade desserts from the patriotic baking contest were available for everyone to enjoy.

As a part of the celebration, the Shavano Park Liberty Tree Mural was unveiled. It features 350 tiles painted by members of the community. Shavano Park Women is a proud sponsor of the mural.

Additionally, the celebration served as an opportunity for community engagement. Local groups like the Daughters of the American Revolution, along with local businesses, had booths where they shared details about their services and projects, helping to build connections among our residents. Attendees could learn about local resources, reinforcing the sense of belonging that Shavano Park is known for.

We extend our gratitude to the SPW volunteers for braving the heat to ensure the success of this event for our city. Everyone enjoyed themselves. It was a fantastic way to celebrate our nation's and our city's birthdays!
