  • A patriotic dessert contest

  • A flag retirement ceremony

  • Pony rides and a petting zoo

  • Face painting

  • A water park with slides and water balloons

  • Hamburgers and hot dogs

  • A visit from McGruff - The Crime Fighting Dog

  • Shaved ice to help keep everyone cool in our Texas heat

  • A band to provide live music for the festivities

SPW was there to handout ice cold beverages and cotton candy. Bexar County Commissioner of Pct 3, Marialyn Barnard, provided free booklets, ‘The US Constitution and Fascinating Facts About It’.

Many thanks to SPW volunteers, Elfie and Tom Palmer, Tom and Glenda Bibb, Lindee McCarthy, Gwen Mitchell, Barb Holmes, and Liz Jauer for helping man the Information Booth, as well as, hand out cold drinks and cotton candy. Additionally, SPW member, Susan Willing oversaw the Baking Contest and Patriotic Parade with judges drawn from SPW membership, spouses of same, and various City dignitaries. Liz Jauer was on the team for Parade judging and Dana Orihel and Rena Lunke assisted with judging the Baking Contest. Thanks to all volunteers for enduring the 100º heat to help make this event a success.

A good time was had by all. What a wonderful way to celebrate our nation's independence!
